Values & Samples

Beyond discrete events, MetricsByScott tracks numbers that change over time — the data-warehouse side of the app.

Values (time-varied metrics)

A value is a business metric measured over time — MRR, total user count, active subscriptions, anything you want to watch trend. Each is described by a metric definition, and MetricsByScott keeps the full history so you can see how it moved, not just where it stands today. Your apps report these values on whatever schedule makes sense (daily, hourly), and you can ask for the current value or the value at a past point.

Samples

Samples are for high-frequency measurements — many readings of a series over a short period. Where a value answers "what's MRR this month," samples suit things measured continuously.

Seeing them

The signed-in Values area shows your time-varied metrics, their definitions, and history. Pair these with events for a full picture: events tell you what users did; values tell you how the business moved.
